Sometimes you may want to link to a file located inside a folder that already exists in your Moodle course. You may want to do this if you want a file to appear under two sections of the same course or if you want to link to an item located inside the library course reserves folder.
Linking to a Course File Using the Text and Media Area
- Open the Moodle course and turn editing on by sliding the Edit Mode toggle to the on position. (Those using the Classic Theme in Moodle can click the Turn Editing on button.).
- Find the place in your course where you wish to add the link.
- Click the Add and activity or resource button.
- From the Resources tab, select Text and media area.
- In the Text box located under the General heading, click the Link button.
- Enter a name for the link in the Text to display field and click the Browse repositories button.
- Select the Server files option from the left-side menu.
- Find and open the course that contains the folder you wish to link. Click the folder to open it.
- Select the folder item to link.
- Select the Link to the file option.
- Click the Select this file button.
- Click the Save and return to course button.
- The link now appears on the course page under the section you have chosen.
Linking to a Course File Using a URL
- Open the Moodle course and turn editing on by sliding the Edit Mode toggle to the on position. (Those using the Classic Theme in Moodle can click the Turn Editing on button.).
- Find the folder that contains the file to which you wish to link and open it to reveal the files inside.
- On a PC, right-click on the file and choose the option to Copy the link address from the pop-up menu. (On a Mac, hold the Control key down and left-click to reveal the pop-up menu.)
- Find the place in your course where you wish to paste the link.
- Click the Add and activity or resource button.
- From the All tab, select URL.
- Under the General heading, enter a Name for the URL.
- Paste the address copies in step 3 into the External URL field.
- Click the Save and return to course button.
