User Overrides in Moodle Quizzes and Assignments

Moodle allows you to change the due date or extend the time period when students have access to a quiz or assignment. You can apply user overrides to individual students or create groups and apply the overrides to a group.

Adding Individual Student Overrides

  1. Open your course and Turn editing on.
  2. Click on the Quiz or Assignment to open it.
  3. Click on the More menu and choose Overrides..

  1. Select User overrides from the drop-down menu and click the Add user override button.

  1. Search for a student in the Search box and select their name to add them into the Override user field.

  1. Make your setting changes.
  1. Click the Save button.

Creating Group Overrides

  1. Open your course and Turn editing on.
  2. If you haven’t already done so, create a new group of students.
  3. Click on the Quiz or Assignment to open it.
  4. Click on the More menu and choose Overrides..

  1. Select Group overrides from the drop-down menu and click the Add group override button.

  1. From the Override group drop-down menu, select the appropriate group.

  1. Make your override changes and click the Save button.

Adding Overrides When Using Moodle’s Classic Theme

This video was recorded using Moodle 3 and the Classic theme. The default theme in Moodle 4 as of the Fall 2023 is Boost.
