Using the Snipping Tool to Record the Screen (Video Only)

The Snipping Tool included on PCs running Windows 11 has a built-in screen recorder that allows you to capture activities on your computer screen.

At this time, the Snipping Tool does not include the ability to record sound with the video.

  1. Open the Snipping Tool application on your computer.
  2. Select the Record option.

  1. Click the New recording button.
  2. Click and drag to select an area you would like to record.
  3. Click the Start button.
  4. A Record Tool Bar appears with three buttons:
    • Pause Recording
      • If you click the Pause Recording button, it turns into a Resume Recording button.
    • Stop Recording
      • Click the Stop Recording button to finish the recording and open the video in the Snipping Tool.
    • Discard Recording
      • Click the Discard Recording button to delete the recording.

  1. After stopping the recording, click the Save as button.

  1. Name the file, choose a save location, and click the Save button.

Using the X-Box Game Bar to Record an Application (Video and Audio)

If you need to record narration with video, you can try the free X-box Game bar application.

The X-box Game bar allows you to record only one application at a time.
